This month we invite one of THE hottest house and minimal producers of 2007 to road test the Cosmic Ballroom's new sound system

SIMON BAKER

Simon Baker has been playing records for over 15 years. A versatile and passionate DJ, he doesn't like pigeon holing his style, as he is a firm believer if it’s good, play it. But his passion is for the finest underground, deep electronic house and techno music, represented by the releases on his superb INFANT RECORDS label.

2007 couldn't be busier as Simon's reputation is fast-growing as one to watch, being proven by current residencies at a number of the UK's acclaimed underground house nights including Asylum & Technique at The Warehouse Leeds, and DDD at The Key, London. Plus worldwide tour support DJ for none other than Steve Lawler.

Simon scored his first hit in 2004 with his debut recording, released under his 'Liptrick' alias, which found it's way into the bags, and compilations of Tiefschwarz, Damian Lazarus, and Dan Ghenacia amongst others, and was signed to Ralph Lawson’s highly respected 2020 Vision label.

Simon is now concentrating on solo material for various labels, including his new label, Infant Records. Infant is run in conjunction with 2020 Vision and the first release debuted Simon's solo sound. Entitled Simon Baker presents 'Footprints EP', it was launched at Sonar 2005. The reactions were tremendous. His label has since gone from strength to strength with more releases from Simon alongside Paul Woolford, Burnski, Sian, and more. His 'Catch Up' release for U.S label Sugarcane release gained him yet another Top Tune of the month Award in IDJ.

This year, Simon has been on fire. The excellent German Label Connaissuer, signed his track "The Fly" which was released in May, alongside "XY & Z” on Leftroom Records. Steve Lawler has also been supporting Simon's work for some time and signed him to his label Viva, with the track "Confused". Further still, the mighty Playhouse Records spotted Simon's productions and have signed him to a 3 single deal, including his huge track from June, "PLASTIK".

The 21st was moved forward to Sat just gone, so on the 7th I am out in Hexham to see a couple of mates and then if I can be bothered to get the train I will have a look in the cosmic as i'm not after a massive night at all and i dont think id enjoy yoji/kutskis sets...
