What a surprise - HEADLINES...so there is evidence against them that they did know about certain phone hacking...

Of course they knew it was happening - they have perfected the art of lying and feel no shame - it's part of their job - why would they initially protect Brooks - because they ALL knew exactly what was going on, but were greedy enough to let it proceed concealed from us all.

Oh wait, James Murdoch has turned down his several million pound bonus (on top of his several millions per year salary) because of what is going on - GUILTY

    Was obvious from the start.

The way they conducted themselves at court as if they were clueless, disgusting - they've obviously all met prior to discuss more tactics

They're not the worst offenders, the Mail/Mirror have been at it for far longer and in far more detail than NI...

Doesn't condone or excuse anything thats come out so far about this whole shabby affair, especially the failure of the police to investigate it all thoroughly...

It's not really about the phone hacking though is it?

Aye just boils my piss tho - them blatantly lying on live television in court - they remind me of the KFC boss from breaking bad trying to get out of the hole he has got himself into (episode 8, series 4).

Police investigations are shit - the longer you can drag something out, the longer people have to find alibis or let things die down. We are just hearing now new revelations about the Moat case. If they saved money on Police driving round streets like headless chickens waiting for something to happen they could invest money in this system to get cases conducted more swiftly.

It doesn't really matter which paper gets put in the dock first, they'd all be lying through their back teeth to get out of it.

Why this is a surprise to people is beyond me :)

People keep saying this. If only we could put our finger on who started putting these facts around. Funny how The Sun never gets mentioned. I am going to peddle into work now & think who would put these facts out there & benefit from them.

http://order-order.com/2010/09/10/take-a-look-in-the-mirror/ - quick graphical view of how many recorded offences were lodged against each group with the ICO.

Also worth a read (with a pinch of salt) - http://order-order.com/tag/dead-tree-press/

Haway man Conway you got to do better than that. It is very clear those figures are a waste of time when you actually look at the numbers. Once Glenn Mulcaire handy work is factored in them figures may be worth looking at.

No surprise a tory boy like Staines/Guidio is peddling stuff that puts dim light on the Daily Mirror though.

Find it amusing when Staines writes "how all the papers were up to dirty tricks" & yet Brookes, Coulson & Murdoch jnr knew nothing about it.

quite. The Murdoch empire has polluted the UK for years now and held politicians to ransom. Phone hacking doesn't seem so bad to me, the government do it to everyone in the UK why people don't get pissed off bout that beats me. But the power that the Murdochs wielded was so anti democratic and hidden.

If it is hidden how do you know about it? I mean Blair fucking off to Oz about 2 mins after getting in or re-elected to get his orders seemed a bit much imo.

It's not a surprise at all - it's just that anybody who hates these utter wankers is revelling in the opportunity to play them at their own game and drum up as much bad press about them as feasibly possible.

Hidden is the wrong word. Unrecognised is better. At least now if you ask people they will at least have heard of the Murdochs. Before if you mentioned them you mostly got blank looks. Nobody seemed to know that one individual owned such large slices of our press and TV, or care

Those stats are a list of recorded complaints by the ICO over six months - i.e. how many people have complained about blagging, phone hacking, and other recorded invasions/breaches of privacy. They include the complaints made last year against the likes of Mulcaire, although I'd imagine that this years figures will probably paint a more accurate picture.

The full ICO report is here (PDF warning) without Guido's slant on it - it shows exactly how many papers/magazines had offences recorded and it shows that pretty much every mainstream publication from the broadsheets to the shitty glossy gossip mags are at it.

Staines' continual slating of the Mirror seems to have less to do with it's political orientation and more to do with the fact that Piers Morgan was at the helm when hacking/blagging went on and the two of them don't particularly seem to like each other. To his credit, his blog (whilst it can be right wing and very biased) has continually pointed out examples of hacking and blagging in all of the papers (including The Times, The Sun, The Guardian, etc).

Aye & Mulcaire was arrested in August 2006 & the way he seemed to going about things it would have huge impact on those figures.

Louise Mensch MP was the last person to have a go at Morgan about hackign/blagging when she had the protection of parliamentary privileges & when asked to repeat the claims outside of Parliament she bottled it, admitted she was wrong & ended up apologising to him.
