    Earplugs for clubbing...

Anyone got any advice on the best type and where to get them from?? I've noticed my hearing is fucked for an increasingly long time post a night out (especially after Crasher) and don't fancy being deaf by 30!!

No it isn't. Its expensive for the best kind but I wouldn't say that the less expensive ones made the sound shit, unless you're talking really bargain basement ones.

I've always got mine off ebay, although I have noticed a few other places that have them online now (i just can't remember where).

tbf, after about thirty mins your ears will adjust and will, compensate for the loss in hi frequencies thats how the ears work.

USSRpatriot always wore a very discreet pair that always seemed to slide almost unnoticed round one entire half of his head.

yeh I got some of them and they really work but they do show so you can look a bit of a div. But playing in bands for years and clubbing have left me unable to follow conversations in pubs when lots of people are talking. And that is really isolating cos you can't keep up with the flow of conversation.
It creeps up on you. don't think it won't happen to you. every time you have ringing in your ears after a night you have permanently damaged your ears a little bit.

the day i realised that my ears were fucked was when i went to crasher and rank 1 awakening was being played... when the main riff kicked in it sounded really wierd and i thought that doesnt sound right... then for the rest of the night and mabey a couple of days later they were still fucked...I have used ear plugs ever since and although my hearing is not the same its certainly a hell of a lot better than it was...my own stupid fault at the end of the day

i recon this has happened to so many people and i bet they carried on going without the protection...I feel sorry for them cos they are going to have serious problems in later life.

Fortunately I only go out clubbing once every few months and then over the last year or so I've been wearing earplugs, but when I go to bed and it's absolutely silent I can hear a faint ringing in my ears, the beginnings of tittinus perhaps? As a result I wouldn't consider going clubbing without earplugs and am really concious about even being in a pub where there is a liveband or whatever just because I love sound!! And I would never want my enjoyment of sound to be compromised because of me going clubbing.

The problem with that is then if you go clubbing with earplugs the night is less enjoyable with the poorer sound quality and I can't bring myself to spend a couple of hundred pound on musician earplugs.

And now I have the means to DJ myself on a fit sound system at home at lower volumes I'm beginning to lean towards reducing the frequency at which I go clubbing. Maybe only a couple of times a year. Which is a shame really :(

listening to anything over 120db for longer than a few minutes permanently damages your hearing. It is cumulative so you don't think anything is happening for ages. but it is.
I went to Habit one time without the plugs cos I forgot them and the high frequencies were really loud and have had tinnitus ever since. I thought it would go away but it hasn't.

Thats not what I'm saying, I currently always wear earplugs, but if you wear earplugs the quality of sound is reduced unless you shell out for some proper musician earplugs. Its not a question of if my hearing is worth £150, more of a question is the extra quality of sound in a club worth £150!?
