DJ's like Ferry who concentrate on own productions

What does everyone think of the trend with some of the huge name Trance Jocks playing most of their sets using only their own productions or remixes?

Got a few ferry corsten sets here and his nature one set from the 31st of August has tons of his own stuff in there.... and of course bloody 'Rock your body' at the end - lol

In a way its quite good since you know if you go and see DJ's like this you will be able to hear familiar stuff... but on the other hand it could be argued that the more these DJ's take their huge success and on the back of it play a narrower range of productions - it keeps the rich, richer and the poor hardworking producers (who get the shitty end of the stick) .... poorer and the tastes of the crowds less educated from the variety being stripped out?

For the average clubber who chases people like Tiesto, Ferry etc etc... does this mean they only get to hear a fraction of what they might with other DJ's?

    Whats your thoughts?

DJ's get slagged for just playing other peoples music / records, seems like they canny win.

tbh the general selection of trance out atm is rather poor, i have maybe 10 records in my bag that are new that i think are minters, ferry does play an awful lot of his own stuff which is cool unless you see it more than once, having said that i am playing a lot of my own stuff and other amateur stuff in my sets, pretty much every other tune coz i dont like a lot of the stuff floating around because its meh or just cained to fuck by every trance dj and his dog

I dont like it when DJ's just play their own stuff. :( Maybe once in a while 'producer sets', but not all the time

    Too far for you...
its pretty obvious that if your djing and producing your gonna play your own stuff, coz you want ppl to hear it.

fink the difference is wen ppl like corsten and tiesto make radio tunes then play them in their sets, thats jus gay in my opinion.

but wen your makin tunes that you want specific for your style of set then theres no problem with that, most of you saw fizz play lots of his own stuff at twisted so its jus the same as ferry nd tiesto etc

    Hmmm...kinda tricky....
when big name djs, are producing their own tunes nd stuff, u half expect them to play their latest new production....but imo, just stick to the few....im happy to lsiten to a few, coz u go out to hear new things.....but dont overdo it!

I think it depends on who the DJ is 2bh.

For example i can't stand to hear ferry caining 'Punk' and 'Rock your body' but I could listen to marco v and van dyk hammering out their productions all night. Wudnt be the same without them!:D

for me it depends how often i see a dj, if i see him play once a year or so and hes canin all his tunes then its great because its something i wanna hear, but if i see them like 5 times a year and they play the same set, like yoji does, then it gets very samey.

Makes it a bit like going to see a band, just without the live performance. ie: you've got a pretty good idea what you're going to hear and don't get that element of suprise when one of your faves gets dropped unexpectedly. Guess it would be short on 'new' tunes as well.

i think top producers like ferry for eg. are bound to play some of there own productions and so they should. im not exactly an experienced clubber since im just 18. but i've seen ferry twice now(Gods at easter, and Ikon) tunes like ligaya, adagio for strings, punk and rock your body rock... you've gota expect those to be played really. at gods everyone was singin along to rock your body rock n it was a quality clubbin moment i thought!! at ikon when he dropped adagio for strings, i think he was sayin 'yea fair enuff tiesto's got a new mix, but listen to this baby!!' n when th crowd were singin th tune to punk back to him, you could barely hear it from th speakers th crowd was that loud. that was jus class!!

th majority of the 2 sets i've seen havn't been his own productions. personally i think ferry's defntly got th blend just right. cant comment on tiesto as i havnt seen him live but the sets i've downlaoded havn't been full of his own stuff either.... don't think you could accuse them of keepin unknown producers out of the scene. if its good enuff, itll get played i think...
