    Advertising - are we stupid?

Advertising is a cruel illusion is it not? We are sold pictures of human happiness, love, friendship, pleasure, sociability etc but it links them to a place which cannot provide it - the market.

The pretty little girl dancing round the summertime garden - PERSIL WASHING POWDER

The half naked waif of a woman wrapped in silken cloth smiling - GALAXY CHOCOLATE

The young twenty-something woman who is adjusting her veil in a mirror and a young girl is sitting beside her - BEAUTIFUL PERFUME

what a pile of utter tosh!!

We know this is a con, but how come we still get suckered in?

Well.. we have to wash our clothes, most of us like to gobble some chocolate down once in a while and perfume makes you smell nice :p

Adverts rarely make me go out and buy something I wasn't already considering tbh although I do see some dire attempts at marketing schemes going on..

I think advertising is given more credit than it deserves. It's nothing more than a mild annoyance for me.

    isnt it just joe.

Its a shamless exhibition of our most desired things, happiness, love and friendship to get us to buy a JML ironing board cover or some other bit of mindless crap.

AAAAAAAAAH it pisses me right off

Advertising is needed, end of. Can you imagine how hard shopping would be if there was no advertising.

Yeah you might actually have to spend time and effort making your mind up about something - instead of having someone else make it up for you.

Marketing is never going to go away - although its ingenious just how people can flog stuff to each other these days. Feels a bit like that story 'The Emperors New Clothes' sometimes with the tat people convince themselves they need.

its not really a case of that though is it? can you really imagine a world without any advertising? you would literally only here about products through word of mouth or by trawling round shops on a regular basis looking what stuff each retailer sold.

    It would be a nightmare!!!!

On another note how good are those price drop tv type channels on digital?

I love the contrived effort they go into to sell a fucking toaster or something.

You know it's fucking shit yet you know that someone, somewhere is going to be convinced to buy a fucking £10 diamond or some utter bollocks like that because two cunts on digital said how amazing it was.

TV advertising wouldn't go a miss. I doubt it really helps many people decide on buying something. I definately haven't seen an advert for a long time that's made me want it.

well that way you wouldnt be sold things you dont need, you could just have one big consumer review centre, much easier.

    advertising is souless.

marketing and advertising is a fundamental trait of human nature, each and every one of us does it every single day in a no more conceited or contrived way than any of the examples you've listed..

Advertising doesn't bother me, it might make me aware of a product I've never heard about.
