a new breed of spam email? Check out what typically arrives in my inbox these days. Shit spam messages/stories in text which make no sense, have a non sensicle subject line (or none at all) and then an image of some form of update for what seems to be the stock market. Anyone care to explain their theory? Who else gets these?
I heard it was to bypass the spam filters and get some kind of response but mine are usually attached pictures like this oddball message oh and i'm not trancebabe82 before anyone asks
I knew that you would be the one to pick up on that so I thought I'd get in there first. I swear I'm not they're always variations of the word "trance" because of my email address.
it's to try and get around the filters. filters cant read text in images (yet..at least not that i know of)
Correct. The scam with the stock market emails is: 1) The spammers invest heavily in the company in question whilst it's cheap. 2) They send out these emails and wait for people to invest in it thinking it's the next big thing. 3) This pushes the share prices up. 4) The spammers sell before the price crashes, pocketing between 15-40% extra. Anyone else who fell for the message stands to lose that amount. Pretty shit scam, but it must be working seeing as I'm getting hundreds of these emails.
i get crap like this all the time. loadsa rubbish spam. got a one that really scared me the other day though, one claiming to be paypal and that $500 had been took out of my account for some gem or something, it was one of those receipt for your payment emails, looked so authentic though. i forwarded it to the authentic paypal one though and they've rectified the problem. just though i'd mention it so other people can be aware though
